The AMS 4928 titanium is considered as workhorse when it comes to the titanium alloys because it is a most commonly used titanium grade. AMS 4928 titanium accounts for approximately fifty percent of the titanium world consumption. This alloy falls under the category of two phase (alpha plus beta) titanium alloy. As the name suggest, here alpha stabilizer is aluminum, six percent (6AL) and beta stabilizer is vanadium, four percent (4V). The production process of AMS 4928 titanium includes primary melting with the help of vacuum arc (VAR), plasma arc hearth melting (PAM) or with the help of electron beam (EB). While the refining of this alloy is done through vacuum arc. The elasticity modulus of AMS 4928 titanium is 107 Gpa, this equates to almost half elasticity modulus of carbon steels. This titanium alloy comes in both forms, as a bar and as a tube.

The reason behind its wide spread application is, its ability of being light weight and having a resistance against corrosion. In any titanium alloy resistance against corrosion is measured with the help of continuous as well as consistent layer of oxide. This oxide layer is formed when the alloy is exposed to the oxygen spontaneously. Therefore, having extraordinary resistance agonist corrosion AMS 4928 titanium is main element in the offshore as well as subsea operations regarding oil and gas because under these operations seawater corrosion is a main concern, which can easily be avoided by using this titanium alloy.  One thing to keep in mind is that, though it has a resistance to general corrosion but is vulnerable to the environment which are responsible for breaking down of oxide layer used for protection. Harmful chemicals include, hydrofluoric (HF), phosphoric acids, hydrochloric acid (HCL) along with sulfuric acid. Moreover AMS 4928 titanium is also known for its age hardening ability when it was treated by heat. This heat treatment is used for increasing AMS 4928 titanium strength.

As far as the marketability of AMS 4928 titanium is concerned then it has a very high demand in the field of aerospace. Because of its lightweight nature, AMS 4928 titanium is considered as the ideal element for the manufacturing of blades used in compressor, cases for rocket engine, pressure vessels, rotor hubs used in helicopters and other components which require detailed forging along and which are sensitive to weight and strength of the manufacturing element.

Another aspect of AMS 4928 titanium usage is in the medical industry. This is considered as a bio-compatible material; therefore, it is used in medical implants. The physical as well as mechanical properties of titanium are considered as a good match for bones and other issues and due to this reason, they can be easily joined together.

Other common areas where AMS 4928 titanium can be used is oilfields, where chemical processing needs to be done on regular basis. It can also be used as a fastener.
